 Inspection

Jenkins Inspectors bridge the gap between "knowing" and "doing."

  Documentation

Review owner specifications and / or contractor execution plan to define job specific work scopes.

  Material Qualification

Confirms that materials manufactured for the project are capable of meeting specified physical properties.

  Applicator Qualification

Confirms that equipment and personnel are capable of installing qualified materials to specified standards.

  Installation Monitoring

Confirms that specifications, good practice and installation procedures are maintained.

  As-installed sampling:

Confirms that production sampling is performed per specifications and sent to the Jenkins laboratory for testing.

  Pre-dryout inspection:

Confirms that installed linings meet specifications.

  Post dryout inspection:

Confirms that installed linings meet specified standards.

Refractory Inspection Services

Robert J. Jenkins & Company's full-time staff of refractory inspectors is available to provide Customers with on-site refractory quality control services, which will ensure successful refractory system performance. Jenkins provides the following services for both refractory and chemical resistant lining applications:

General Inspection
Initial Inspection - For existing lining systems, perform complete visual and non-destructive testing, with concise written and photographic documentation outlining the observations.

Repair Recommendations - Provide written repair recommendations detailing anchor design, refractory material selection, lining thickness and recommended methods of lining application

Monitor Lining Application - Observe all aspects of lining application including surface preparation, anchor installation, refractory installation and thermal dryout.

Ensure Specification Compliance - Review and enforce all Project documentation including specifications, drawings and approved installation procedures

Material Sampling - Collect and document all samples collected during lining application, and expediting laboratory testing.

  • Field Inspection and Analysis of Existing Lining Systems Consisting of:
  • Shop Inspection of New Lining Applications
  • Observation of Refractory or Chemical Resistant Lining Applications
  • Lining Failure Analysis
  • Full Documentation of Lining Installations with Prognosis of Serviceability
  • Thermal Scanning
  • In-Situ Abrasion Testing
  • Core Sampling
  • Membrane Spark Testing

Installation Details

Drawings, specifications and details are thoroughly reviewed and / or prepared for each phase of the project.

Rammer Pre-Qualification

The rammer pre-qualification test consists of a panel to which the reinforcing system proposed for the work has been attached. Refractory material intended for the work is prepared using jobsite equipment with each proposed installer ramming a panel. A sample set for laboratory testing is collected for each panel.

Installation Monitoring

Assures that proper installation procedures are executed for optimum lining performance.

Rammed Field Production

Field samples are collected during the installation of refractory lining systems. the field sample when laboratory tested is a record of the quality of the installed lining.

Visual inspection of an installed lining

The completed lining of an FCC catalyst recovery cyclone is visually inspected for lining thickness and for gaps between the refractory and the hexmesh.

Dryout Monitoring

Controlled dry-out monitoring assures that proper dryout procedure is followed, to prevent inadequate dry-out, which may result in spalling upon unit startup.
